🥼 the doctor is IN

I should start by saying: I’ve never ever seen a single Doctor Who thing ever before in my life.

That being said….. I had the most fun time of my life watching the new Doctor Who (yes, the Disney+ one). It’s just sooo unserious in the best, most campy way. If you’re looking for some light laughs and a lil bit of musical theatre humor (iykyk), then this is definitely gonna be your show.

But first, as per yoozh: 🛑 Being a TV newsletter and all, there naturally are spoilers in every issue. Please proceed with caution if you have not yet watched Doctor Who (2024) but are actually planning to. 🛑

🎶 The random songs in this show? Eve 👏🏼 ry 👏🏼 thing 👏🏼 If you don’t know what I mean when I say “musical theatre humor,” like, this is it. The musical numbers get me every single time. And the lyrics? The he’s not a myth, he’s the actual thing line from the number with the goblin king is so ridiculous and so peak comedy — do not fight me on this.

🦹🏼‍♀️ The villains are so Sailor Moon-coded and as a committed, long-term Sailor Moon girlie, I was living for it. I mean, Mastro stealing all of the music from the universe and that being the reason the entire world ended? Pretty sure I saw that in a Sailor Moon episode back in 2003. And I *love* it — both back then and now.

🌎 Speaking of the end of the universe… those uber serious moments that get almost existential or philosophical? Obsessed. I think they add so much substance to an otherwise very silly, almost bizarre show. And I think they’re a necessary reminder of what’s at stake (the fate of the entire world, etc etc) that somehow also adds to the campiness of the entire show. I mean, a musical number as the doctor’s companion is on a conveyor belt headed straight for the goblin king? Two words: Peak. Comedy.

If you’re looking for a light, fun, campy watch, I’m telling u — this is it. And I will be sat for the next season. I’ll save you a seat 😉
